Jesse Mechling - Center for Coastal Studies Spinnaker: An Entanglement Story
Jesse Mechling, Director of Marine Education at the Center for Coastal Studies presents Spinnaker: An Entanglement Story. Spinnaker was a thirty-six foot humpback whale well known to Center scientists and the New England whale watching community, who tragically lost her very young life after suffering from fishing gear entanglement. Spinnaker's story partly tells the Center's forty-year history of studying whales in New England. Her tale also speaks to the challenges large whales still face in the world, as they try to recover from centuries of slaughter.
